I thought Rascal was a great book to read in grupos, and a great book to read alone. One of my favorite aspects of the story was how easily Rascal learned. For example Rascal learned how to open the screen door at Sterling's house just by watching the other animals do it. I also liked how the author, Sterling North, explained in detail the places Rascal and Sterling traveled to. One of the parts I didn't like was how Sterling let Rascal go. However, without this happening, the story would be a lot different, and Rascal got to be free in the wild with a Raccoon mate. I think the main theme of Rascal is friendship, but also that all friends don't have to be human.
