Trans(per)forming book launch

If I were to assemble a crack team of superheroes, whom I would dub The Revengers, I’d look no further than my own messy metropolis. By night, Nina Arsenault, who is celebrating the launch of her biography at
Buddies, would be known as Silicone Sassy, able to shoot molten silicone from her fingertips. Those who have seen her one-woman plays, The Silicone Diaries and I Was Barbie, have come to know her long, hard, humorous journey. Now people everywhere can read about it, in Trans(per)forming Nina Arsenault: An Unreasonable Body of Work, a biography penned by 13 writers and artists, including a section by Arsenault herself. fab’s own Tony Fong snapped the cover photo. It’s standing-room only as guests such as artist Sheila Lamb, Maclean’s writer — and former fab editor — Mitchel Raphael and playwright Sky Gilbert listen to Arsenault speak. Amazingly, all tonight’s copies sell out, but it’s available from Amazon. “I was really surprised by some of the behind-the-scenes things that you think no one sees,” Arsenault says. “I laughed out loud reading David Fancy’s section. He really saw me.”

Fresh Haus

Though DJ/promoter Aeryn Pfaff might try hard to hide his not-so-secret identity, his mighty morphin’ hangovers would threaten to reveal his nighttime alter ego, Power Drinker. Able to consume more alcohol in a single night than anyone, Pfaff’s new party, Fresh Haus, is still in its infancy. After just one party he’s had to relocate to the recently renovated Vic Public House. Despite the late start and lighter-than-expected attendance, it could be destined for greatness. After all, Pfaff is a student of the now-defunct Circa. Tonight Glammy Lee and Caitlin, two darlings of many scenes, take over the dancefloor with a flourish as Pfaff and co-DJ Chris Abbott slip on some beats. If anyone can get a party going, it’s the intoxicating Pfaff.

Dirty Sexy Party

Perhaps bitten by a mutant carpenter ant many years ago, Sofonda, aka Super Duper Girl, is able to perform faster than a speeding taxicab at more than three events every night. Tonight, she and her sidekick Devine Darlin are hosting the fourth anniversary of Dirty Sexy Party. To create a dirtier, sexier atmosphere at fly, Sofie and Joseph Patrick usher partiers through the club’s side entrance, giving the feeling of entering an afterhours boozecan. And what goes better with booze than pornstar Trystan Bull naked and covered in cake? Maybe a stage show by pornstar Jake Diesel, who is making the boys squeal like bottom bitches in heat. A small (squealing) twink from the audience eagerly jumps on stage to rub baby oil on this massive man with long, curly blond hair. Give him a hammer and he could be the mighty porn version of Thor. Give him a condom and he’ll make that squealing twink mighty thor.

Cub Camp

Don’t get DJ Scooter mad by asking to hear some lame top-40 track at his monthly party Cub Camp or he’ll suddenly transform into Bear Boy. With the strength of 10 Queen Westers (five Scarberians) he’ll wear you down with his eclectic beats. Cub Camp, which calls The Beaver home, has been going fairly strong for more than a year now. Tonight’s a late start, so we juice up at the bar, which is manned by crop-top cutie David. Skinny little otter Joe, proudly sporting his John Waters mustache, is in heaven, pulling looks on the dancefloor as guest DJ Sammy Jo — the Scissor Sisters’ touring DJ — drops some surprisingly kiki beats. “One night when I was on tour [with the Scissor Sisters] I autographed some girls’ titties and one guy’s ass,” Sammy giggles. Horny Noah, meanwhile, is fully coming out of his itty-bitty Boy Scout uniform as he roams the room hoping to earn his badge in crotch grabbing. Luckily I have on my force field . . .aka a jockstrap and cup.
