Death in Calgary

Canadian musician brings electro beats to Venice

01.01.2012

Foxy Calgary-born Rae Spoon’s new single “Ocean Blue” ambles through the decadent canals of Venice in the spirit of Thomas Mann’s Death in Venice.

“Ocean Blue,” Spoon’s first single from their new album, I Can’t Keep All of Our Secrets, is a slight departure from their previously folk-indie sound.

The music video is described as a “visual pastiche” of Mann’s 1912 novella, about a man driven to obsession by the beauty of a young teen while vacationing. Spoon, as the Aschenbach character, is a dapper, heavily made-up person making their way through the city toward their fatalistic end.
