New York/Barcelona DJ Sammy Jo has been the Scissor Sisters’ touring DJ since 2004. He’ll be on the road again when the band tramps around the globe with the new record,
Magic Hour, but before that madness begins he’ll be visiting Toronto to spin at the hairy, butch realness that is Cub Camp.
“Touring for
Night Work [the band’s last album] was incredible,” Sammy says. “Because it was such a dance-heavy record, they told me to go for a strong club vibe when I was playing. People went fucking nuts — dancing their asses off, taking their clothes off. The night we played Paris it was 43 degrees on stage. The computers were failing, steam was coming off everyone, and by the end of the show Jake was totally naked and Ana was throwing buckets of water at the crowd to try and cool everyone down.

“Jane Fonda was at that show in an I Heart NYC T-shirt that she had completely sweated through. That woman’s body is so fucking fierce she didn’t give a shit. She was shaking her tatas the whole damn show.”
You can shake whatever you want when Sammy Jo spins at Cub Camp, Fri, May 11, at The Beaver, 1192 Queen St W. beavertoronto.ca
