Doll-icious project

Ken dolls get frisky in cyberspace

08.16.2012

“I’m creating a fantasy world through Ken dolls, which explores gay relationships, the life of a single gay man, and gay men looking for sex,” says photographic artist Walter Segers. His No PDA project featured images of affectionate same-sex couples digitally overlaid onto public places. It allowed Segers to explore his insecurities: “I didn’t feel comfortable with displays of affection with my husband, even walking hand in hand.”

His current project, What I Did on My Summer Vacation, presents Segers’ 2012 summer — “the last three months, what I have done, what I wish I had done and my fantasies” — via vintage 1960s Ken dolls in various poses and locations, including some tantalizing situations.

The project will be exhibited in the online arts magazine Wondereur in a series of photo-essays of artists and their work. Segers’ segment will feature a day in his life, including images of him with his husband, him working in his studio, and his Ken dolls.
