Esther Perbandt’s German edge

When gay men think of German designers, many recall watching Berlin runway shows held in dark, vast, drafty warehouses and stern-faced models wearing black. This wasn’t far from the truth of Esther Perbandt’s show Wednesday night at FAT.
Though the menswear was sparse, her military-inspired jackets in black, thigh-length shorts and a covet-worthy high-collar wrap jacket are worth a look. Perbandt’s name may not be as recognizable as Jill Sander’s, but if this collection is any indication, one day it will be.
