FAT Day 1: FAT opens with artistic flair

Style columnist Max MacDonald on the opening night of Toronto Alternative Fashion Week

04.27.2011

Last night at 99 Sudbury, the 2011 Toronto Alternative Fashion Week, aka FAT, opened to a packed house full of anticipation. Vanya Vasic (below), the event’s executive director, beamed as she launched the sixth season. Though there was no menswear to be found and the women’s collections were dull, there were a lot of creative elements to absorb. Highlights were nude performance artist Johannes Zits' work, Pre-Love Action, and Andrew Owens’ Live Photo Collective Cubic Tableau (above), which saw him take pictures of FAT attendees and turn them into collages. This year, youth arts charity Sketch is auctioning off avant-garde teddy bears like this leather one with spikes (below). Too cute.
