The legislative assembly of St Petersburg, Russia, recently passed an
anti-gay bill that bans any “propaganda of homosexuality.” The bill, which shuts down gay pride celebrations and any kind of promotion for LGBT organizations to “protect” minors, also equates homosexuality with pedophilia and bestiality.
Because you can’t keep a good bitch down, pop icon Madonna, on her World Tour, promised fans that when she arrives in St Petersburg, Russian president-elect Vladimir Putin’s hometown, she’ll be speaking up for the gays. “I will come to St Petersburg to speak up for the gay community, to support the gay community and to give strength and inspiration to anyone who is or feels oppressed.”
Unfortunately, even though Madonna has the freedom to express herself about this “ridiculous atrocity,” the LGBT population of Russia certainly does not. Activists are encouraging tourists around the world to
avoid the country, which claims to be a cultural leader and will be hosting the Olympics in 2014.
