“Bullying is so lame!” yells Proud FM host Mike Chalut at the third annual star-studded CLIMAX event on Sunday, May 27. As the CEO of M Team Productions, which organized the event, Chalut understands the importance of bringing the community together for a good cause. “Today is a true sign that we are louder and prouder of who we are than ever before.”
With proceeds going to PFLAG, a plethora of Toronto gays and celebrity guests came out to celebrate. Dancers from So You Think You Can Dance Canada, piano man Jeffery Straker, Second City, Young Empires, CP24’s Melissa Grelo and Breakfast Television co-host Dina
Pugliese all pitched in.
Of course, an open-bar afternoon wouldn’t be complete without the presence of crowd-pleasers Miss Conception and Heroine Marks, who teased the audience with a fiery display of dress-ripping numbers.
The evening came to a roaring climax with a stellar performance by Canadian singing sensation and diva-in-training Kreesha Turner, who belted out an unreleased song from her upcoming album.
The free food and drinks were enough to feed an army. The tuna tartar, by the Chef Gents, and pulled-pork parfait, by Hank Daddy’s Barbecue, were the palate pleasers of the night.
Even more delicious were the buff-bodied boys of Crewmen & Co, who offered some guilt-free eye-candy in every corner of the room.
“All of these people want to raise awareness to put an end to homophobia,” Chalut said. “At the end of the day, bullies can change.” — Kyle Burton
