I love when I get to “runway walk” in the city. It’s that moment on the street when the fashion and music stars align and your outfit and song choice are in perfect sync. You’re walking to the beat just enough that people may not notice, and you feel unstoppable. Just YouTube any Versace runway show and you’ll see what I mean.
I’ve asked my talented friend (and brother from another mother) Fritz Helder, of Azari & III, to model some looks that will get you seen in the city. Who better than someone whose personal style is fearless and who considers Naomi Campbell and Grace Jones role models? That’s what I call werk.
Azari & III (pronounced third) is taking over. The guys’ songs are sexy and their live show is mesmerizing. They hail from Toronto, but since becoming a dance music phenomenon, they spend a lot of time in Europe and Asia and will be touring the US this fall. Their songs “Hungry for the Power” and “Reckless” are both on my fashion playlist and are the perfect mix of atti-tude and soulfulness.
So, cover girls, put the bass in your walk; head to toe, let your whole body talk! Here are the essentials for perfect sidewalk steez (style with ease).

The Essentials
Sunglasses. For those early mornings after late nights. Don’t be afraid to splurge — they make your face look expensive. Besides, cheap sunglasses never last.
Earphones. Essential for sidewalk strutting. Makers have upped the ante and offer lots of variety in colour and style. Just make sure they sound as good as they look.
Phone case. Protect yourself before you wreck yourself. Screen cracks are whack. The right case will protect and make a statement. Be as fancy as you want to be.
Your playlist. An upbeat mix of idols and indies. Azari & III, Young Empires and Madonna will do very nicely.
