Minneapolis-based retail company Target has had a
somewhat rocky marriage with the queer community. A couple of years ago, Lady Gaga refused a deal with Target for an exclusive special edition of her
Born This Way album because of the company's contribution to a publicly anti-gay American politician, and even more recently, the company was criticized for its decision not to sell R&B singer Frank Ocean’s latest album, allegedly because he recently came out.
Despite this, Target spokespeople claim the company is in no way anti-gay. It has been reported that Target is a major sponsor of Pride in Minneapolis and scores high when it comes to equality for queer employees.
Most recently, though, the company has released a series of same-sex wedding greeting cards, with captions that include "Mr & Mr" and "Two very special women, one very special love."
Could this be a holy union, or should we all object?
