You think our mayor is bad; imagine if the best candidate running for municipal government was a four-legged, cat-nip-addicted fuzzy critter.
In anticipation of
fab’s
pet issue we take a look at
Mayor Stubbs, a part-manx kitty ushered into office in Talkeetna, Alaska, as a write-in candidate 15 years ago. Stubbs was named honorary mayor of the town of 900 people and has become somewhat of a fixture in Nagley’s General Store.
He’s certainly a temperamental mayor: general store manager Laurie Stec reports Stubbs has a habit of drinking water tinged with catnip out of a wine glass and demands constant attention. Despite his diva behaviour, he receives fan mail and visits from tourists and has thousands of Facebook fans. Stec maintains, “He's good. Probably the best we've had.”
