VIDEO: Gay rom-com

Parody video makes romance tolerable

05.01.2012

Sometimes a gay twist makes something that's mediocre completely and totally lovely.

No Strings Attached, a 2011 romantic-comedy starring Ashton Kutcher and Natalie Portman, is about two best friends who engage in a friends-with-benefits-type relationship and blah blah blah. You can probably guess the plot without even seeing the trailer.

Funny, how when you parody the archetypal rom-com, making it a pair of gay guys, the movie instantly seems watchable. Don’t get me wrong: gay rom-coms can be pretty toxic (à la Latter Days or Another Gay Movie), but these two guys are so charming and adorable, and they have fantastic chemistry! Despite the fact that it's a gag trailer, it leaves me wanting this movie to be made . . . or rather, remade!
