Sunglasses are a gay man’s style weapon. Without them we scuttle about like pale gremlins, shrieking, “Bright light! Bright light!” But with the right shades on our faces we can channel new personas, transforming the geek into a hipster or the fashion victim into a trendsetter. The real challenge is arming yourself with the perfect pair, especially with Pride less than three months away.
It is estimated that more than 10,000 brands of sunglasses exist worldwide, ranging from $5 airport cheapies to high-end lines starting at $40,000. To maximize your bang for buck, look for frames that will complement the shape of your face, last at least one season and highlight your style. But where to begin? I posed this all-important question to Tony at Gafas Optical on Queen St W, and he pulled some of the latest looks for spring/summer 2012.
